It’s raining cats and dogs out there. What a nice weather to have a nap on this Tuesday afternoon. BUT.. I just couldn’t sleep!! Even when I had forced myself to shut my eyes off and laid on the bed for like almost 2 hours!! Ghhoosshh… Tonight will be my second night shift and I’m pretty sure it will be a tough night. :/

I miss my family. I miss Uncle Thom and Aunty Beth. When are you coming to see me again? I wish I’m happy like Elmo right now but too bad, I’m emo…

Dear readers, I’m just back from my holiday. It was a special home-coming holiday, because Ming was back with me too! :D

It was a short holiday. 3 days in Miri and 3 days in Kuching. We spent our quality time together with my family, including my cousins and relatives.

Ming’s trip to Miri is meaningful to me. I know mother likes him. So do my father. I’m not sure whether my brothers like him or not. However he’s accepted by my family.

I love my man. Yes, I really do. I love the fact that he would do anything in the world for me.

I love how thankful he is for being my man. I love when he finishes my sentences. I love all his funny songs he sings.

I love it when he cooks for me.

I love his massage.

I love how he likes Kung-Fu

I love how he prays for me. I love how he feels proud of me.

We are getting married. I mean, we are planning for our marriage. Please keep us in your prayer :) Thank you!

Mid Autumn Festival

Dear all, Happy Mid Autumn Festival! :) Are you nomming mooncake or sipping a cup of hot tea now?

I couldn’t celebrate my mid autumn festival with my family this year because I’ve to work. Ming drove down to JB to celebrate mid autumn festival with me despite of his hectic work and packed schedule. How sweet is he. ^_^

He brought me to Station One before our dinner because he knew I recently fell in love with banana milk shake!

Oh gawd you all should at least try once! It’s so yummylicious and healthy as well! :P

I think I should get myself a blender so that I can make my own banana milk shake at home! :D

I cherish every moment I spend with him because I know our time together is very limited. His patients are waiting for him. Hospital needs him. Clinics need him. Judy needs him too! :D

I love it when they come to JB visit me. They are my relatives. Even though we had lost contact for like 15 years, they are now here for me. They care and concern about me like my own father and mother. :’) Aren’t they fantabulous?!

Uncle Thomas who is living in England purposely came to JB that day just to see his niece --- ME! Haha! When he knew I’m working in JB, he told me I can stay at his house which he bought many years ago. He came with Aunty Elizabeth ( my 姑姑) who is working in Singapore to clean the house and pass me the house key. He brought me to meet his in-law’s side relatives too in case I need any help.

Aunty Elizabeth comes to JB quite often since she’s working in Singapore. After posted to JB, she comes whenever she has day-off to accompany me. See how nice they are. :)

I realized how lucky am I. I enjoy being loved and pampered just like a little princess. ^__^ This place is no longer stranger to me in the presence of my uncle and aunty. I love them! I wish I can move all my family from Miri to JB!

Oh dear! Can’t believe I’m back again to blog after MIA for so long. Was really busy and lazy as well. Yessh I’m honest ;)

Okay, now let’s see where to start.

Let me introduce you few of my housemates.

Well I don’t think you are interested with their names. One of them is extremely dirty. Spoiling image of staff nurse >:(

I hate it when people use my things without my permission!

I hate it when people never know how to wash their own plates/bowls after finish eating.

Well, living under the same roof with so many races and religion, I already expected I’ll face these kinda problems one day. Sabar je lah~!

Have I tell you I’m working in Paediatric + Surgical ward? I’m looking after sick babies and toddlers most of the time. Small kids and adults who are going for operation will be admitted to my ward too! I’m enjoying at this new place. All my colleagues are nice, doctors are nice too! I’m facing a lot of “problematic” parents everyday. Well people brought their child / family to PRIVATE hospital, so definitely they are expecting excellent services from us. Again, SABAR je lah! :D

Working in paediatric ward is quite stressful sometimes because sick babies/kids love to cry. Once they saw nurse entered their room with blue tray or syringes, they’ll start yelling. People are allergic to seafood or peanuts but they are allergic to nurses and doctors. Haha! They are so cute! They can even cry cute-ly. ^_^

Columbia Asia’s Robot is giving away free ice-creams to the kids during my hospital’s open day.

FYI, my bf is also working in oncology paediatric ward currently. He can get along with the kids very well! There’s a Day care centre in his hospital. So the kids usually went there for chemotherapy, then will go back home after chemotherapy on the same day as well. The kids, age 2-3 years old, will run to him every morning and pull his pants, wanting him to carry them. The kids will then take out the pacifier from the mouth and plant a kiss on his cheek. Awww so sweet~!

Call me staff nurse Judy, because I’m a registered nurse now! :) After spending 3 years in University Malaya Medical Centre, I am posted to Johor Bahru by Columbia Asia Hospital.

Johor is a new place for me. New hospital, new friends, new colleagues, everything is new. I’m still trying to adapt to this new environment. Pray that everything will be fine…

Cu Chi Tunnel

Good morning world! I’m here to continue with my Vietnam post. :)

We booked a half day tour to Cu Chi tunnel on the day before we fly back home. It cost us USD 9 for the trip+tour guide who speaks English, the price is not include our entrance ticket.

According to Moon (the name of the tour guide, Cu Chi Tunnel is 70km away from Ho Chi Minh City in the Northwest. You can Google search for more information about Cu Chi Tunnel if you are interested. :)

Finally arrived after 2 hours.

We were given a brief introduction about Cu Chi Tunnel.

I was not interested with the history of this place so I started to play with the camera. :P

After the 15 minutes introduction, we finally can start our Cu Chi Tunnel journey!

This pity old man was stuck at the hole due to his big belly. FYI Vietnamese people are all very small and skinny, that’s why the hole is so small.

The staff is trying to rescue him by pulling his belly upwards. :D

More people came to help to pull him up. He was so lucky because there were so many tourists there to help him get up. If he’s alone, he’ll be stuck at the hole and most probably attacked by animal. Who knows? :P

This is the hole connected to the tunnel. Very small, however Ming managed to get in because he’s fit enough. :)

We finished our Cu Chi Tunnel trip at about 2.30pm, the driver dropped us at the city because we wanted to walk around. We went into the Remnants Museum to take some pictures as remembrance.

We went back to the same coffee house again at night before we fly back to Malaysia. I’m gonna miss Vietnam coffee so much!

It was a splendid vacation! If I have the time and money to travel to Vietnam again, I’ll most probably visit Hanoi. :)

HCMC

Xin chao dearest readers! I’m back from my vacation! Sorry for the long MIA :P FYI, the title of my blog post HCMC means Ho Chi Minh City. So obviously I went to Ho Chi Minh right after I finished my final semester exam. And the word “Xin chao” means hello in Vietnam. :)

Jie and Kenneth sent us (Ming & I) off at the airport after her class. Thank God we had a safe journey all the way to the airport, and a safe vacation too! :)

My late lunch at McDonald’s – Fillet O Fish

After a set of FOF meal at McDonald’s, we switched to Starbucks due to the poor internet connection there. In fact I was not stuffed with just a set of FOF (Fillet O Fish) because I was seriously hungry!

Had a cup of hot cocoa before our flight. :)

Ladies and gentlemen, I guess this is the first time I post up his photo in my blog. He’s not hot and handsome like Zac Efron.

I’d heard people asking " Why is that stunning girl dating that ugly guy? Such a waste.” Well, I’m not saying he’s ugly, because he’s not, just that he’s not as good-looking as others do. Most guys don’t realize that a winning personality can overcome physical attraction in women’s mind. I attracted to who he is, rather than how he looks like. And most importantly, ugly guys would never cheat on you. If you date an ugly man, he will be in cloud nine and will never thought of cheating you. He will not fall for another woman because he already bagged the perfect one! Why should he cheat on you? Why should he be unsatisfied? He already got you, pretty! One of my close friend, Leonard, ever told me if he was my boyfriend, he’d be worried and pressured most of the time.

Ming is a nice man. He is loyal (so am I), hardworking, hilarious, kind, friendly, honest, nerd (he admitted too), obedient, love my family, and most importantly he loves me more than I love him. He treats me like a precious princess. ^_^ I’m such a fortunate girl!

After 1 hour and 50 minutes, we finally reached Vietnam!

A Vietnamese man were holding a board with the BF’s name on it waiting for our arrival outside of the airport. We were then chauffeured to our hotel. We had our late dinner at one of the restaurants opposite the hotel. It’s not a high-class restaurant though because the other restaurants were closed when we arrived. It was almost midnight!

After walking for the whole day, I finally told Ming I need some rest. The park was just on the other side of the road.

Watching people playing games, jogging, picnic-ing. I didn’t sweat as much as I did in Bangkok, but I was really tired! The air in Vietnam is so polluted and the weather is hot which made me don’t feel like wearing dress.

We walked back to our hotel and I locked myself in the bathroom for like 30 minutes because I need to be showered from head to toe, scrub away all the microorganisms. I tucked myself under the comforter right after I came out from the bathroom, not bothering how wet is my hair. I was seriously tired! :P

When I woke up from my nap, it was half past 7, my hair is still wet! :P

We walked to the night market which is quite near to the Ben Thanh Market. I ran into my coursemates and lecturers again! Gawd!

Vietnam’s famous spring rolls

After our dinner, we walked around the city to help us to digest better. As we walked down the street, crossed our fingers together, we enjoyed the night scenery in Ho Chi Minh. I love vacation, because no phone calls from hospital and clinics disturbing us. People in Malaysia couldn’t reach us because there’s no network coverage. The only way to contact us is through email. :)

We had a cup of coffee before we head back to our hotel. Coffee in Vietnam is simply perfect! As a coffee lover, I will never forget the aromatic smell and the rich taste of coffee in Vietnam. 10 times nicer than Starbucks, seriously! Moreover, they are cheap! They have range for their coffees, from mild to rich, and you can choose to add milk if you like. I tried their coffee which is categorized in mild range, and surprisingly it taste like super rich and “gao” coffee in Malaysia. :O *thumbs up* No wonder I don’t see any Starbucks or Coffee Bean here, because their local coffee taste so much nicer than Starbucks and Coffee Bean.

The following day, we had our dinner at CNSG Restaurant, which is located just beside our hotel. The price here is reasonable. But I’d recommend you to try Quan An Ngon Restaurant instead of this restaurant.

I got cheated by a guy who sell coconut juice on my first day in Vietnam. VND $400,000 for a super small baby-sized coconut! Hmmph! >:(

First experience as a scrub nurse

I am lucky to have the opportunity to assist the surgeons in the operation theatre this morning. Dr. Siva and Dr. Daniel are SUPER NICE doctors! They are so friendly and willing to teach me patiently when they knew that was my first time. The patient had large hydrocele, so the surgeon did a Jaboulay procedure for him. FYI, hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle. I’m not allowed to take pictures in the OT, couldn’t share with you all what I learnt this morning. However, I found a Jaboulay surgery video clip from YouTube, the steps are more or less the same I saw this morning.

Special thanks to my OT mother, Ms. Lai, SN Mastura, and both of the surgeons. I learnt a lot from them! This is what I called a splendid team. No scolding, no shouting, no anger, no stress, no worries. We work happily. Seriously, I felt like we were in one of the ER series this morning. :D

Operation Theatre posting

I’m working in operation theatre (OT) this week. The working hours are long, and we are given less than an hour for our lunch break. DOG TIRED!!!! My OT scrub suit is too big, which created a deep ‘V’ between my breasts. Sexay right? HAHA! Don’t worry, I clipped it so that the surgeons can concentrate during their operations. :D

Goodbye Grandma

My dearest grandma passed away on the 28th February at 7.40a.m. I’m sorry I was not there when she took her last breath. I received a message from my 3QQ early in the morning when I was still in my blanket (I worked evening shift that day). Then the second message came in, which was from my mother. The ringing tone woke me up. Her death was a shock to me. The messages iced the blood in my veins. Tears rolled down my cheeks, couldn’t believe she had gone for now.

My grandma was diagnosed with Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF). For months, she had been battling with her heart problems. She had 4 times heart attack, she survived from the previous 4 times ischemic heart disease because she was keen to stay with us longer. I did not know her condition worsen and deteriorated so fast, until I received MMS from my uncle 3QQ, and when I visited her during Chinese New Year. She had ascites and edema on both lower limbs due to the heart disease. Doctor said her heart was only functioning 20%. She was so weak, even when she was sitting on the chair, she couldn’t keep her head straight.

My heart aches, my conscience plague. My mind was scrambling for all I can remember of her. I went to the office to look for my ward tutor to apply for emergency leave. I burst into tears in front of my tutor. When Ming came to see me after his work at the clinic, I threw myself into his arms, and broke down into wracking tears. I just can’t stop crying, because I miss grandma so much! Who will ever call me “Luly” again? My grandma is the only person who pronounced my name Judy as Luly.

Dear Grandma,

Your greatest gift to me was that of love, but now it’s time for you to share it up above. You always have so many stories to tell us. You love to smile and laugh too! Sometimes 2EE will tell you “Finish your sentence first before you laugh!” I miss that moment…

You like family gathering. You like it when we visited you. If you knew anyone of us is picking you out for meal, you will surely get ready very early, and waited for our arrival at the door. I know I was not a perfect granddaughter when you are still alive. Most of the time, we make you wait. Death… Grief… Lost… Regrets… Tears… I lost my only grandma (外婆) I ever have, known and loved. What can I do now? I must treat my parents well before I regret again.

Grandma, now it’s time for you to rest, get your wings and fly. As tears rolled down my cheeks, and I try to say goodbye. I know your place in heaven will have a great view. Because I can hear you telling God “I need to keep my eye on a few”. Hope to see you soon in my dreams, and hopefully one day in heaven. But until then, you will always be in my heart. In my heart I hold you inside.

Hello February~! LOL I know I’m so late because tomorrow is the last day of February!!!! :P Please forgive for my late update. You know, nurse is always busy. HAHA!

I’m currently doing my management posting in general surgery ward. Do you still remember the charcoal ward sister? Yeah she’s still there, still as fierce as before.

I deleted my blog link in my Facebook, so I guess the hospital staff wouldn’t be knowing I’m a blogger :) The staff nurses in the ward treat me extremely GOOD~! :D Because… I’m not gonna tell you here! :P

I haven’t been receiving soft toys as a present for quite some time already. The reason is: Not because I don’t like cuddlesome teddies, but I don’t have extra spaces for them.

Hmmm… I wanna eat Kolok Mee (Kolok mee is Sarawak’s well-known noodle )!! Had been stuffing my stomach with CNY food these days. :P

Can I extend my holidays? :( I haven’t enjoy till the max leh~!

Happy Chinese New Year to all who celebrate CNY! Time flies, a year had passed, and here comes the bunny year!

I came back home on the 1st of February after I finished my exam. May God bless me with a flying colours result. :)

The boyfriend bought me a purple colour cheongsam as my Chinese new year gift. Sharon Moh said he has a good taste, which made him so happy when I told him about that. Hahaha! Oh yea, I haven’t introduce my boyfriend to you all yet. #^_^# Just a quick and short introduction, he is from Alor Setar, 6 years older than me (I’ll fart out a blog later regarding “Why Older Men Are More Appealing or Better?”). Yeah that’s all, quick and short enough right? Hahaha! Mom and dad met him and they both like him, but for some reason, my sister gave me a feeling that she doesn’t like him. Don’t ask me why because I’m trying to figure it out too! :D Jie ar jie, why ar? :P

Christmas Lunch with the Family

My family and I went up to Brunei for Japanese lunch after the church service! :) Good thing that I remember to bring my passport back with me.

Cephas promoted this scallops to us. It was superb!! The scallop is so soft and juicy. Just one bite and you’re in the heaven. Haha!

Chawan mushi is my favourite in whichever Japanese restaurant. Simply love the smooth steamed egg and the ingredients inside. I don’t need to chew them into pieces because the egg can easily slipped into my oesophagus.

This is my big and strong brother, Cephas Yong. :) See my photo-snapping is so good. He looks so slim here with the sharp chin. Faster thank me Cephas Yong!! Hahahaha!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! ^_^

Christmas is one of my favourite season, partly because I love the Christmas atmosphere! It’s so powerful! It can influences many non-Christians to celebrate this lovely season.

After the Christmas church service, I went to X-Cuisine to meet up the old friends! Chong Yee Ping is back to Malaysia!!! We haven’t been seeing each other for sooo many years!

I went out with my pretty cousin, Edwina few days ago. Our hang out was quite random. Just a call, then the shopping is ON! :)

Just in case you do not know her, Edwina is an International supermodel. Her legs are much more longer then mine. Obviously she’s taller than me. :D

I had my first pedicure at Nail’s Earth that day. Thanks to the cousie who brought me here.

I am sick again. *Long sigh* Hopefully I’ll recover before flying to Bangkok otherwise it gonna be a real bummer! :(

I went to the pharmacy to buy some medicines after the church service. I was shocked to know that tab.Augmentin 625mg is freaking expensive! RM6 per tablet, I bought 14 tablets altogether because it’s a BD dose. I always get free medicines from the hospital or directly from the doctors and that’s why I never thought the same type of antibiotic which I can get for FREE in KL can cost so much money in Miri.

Enough for the bad news. I have a good news to share here! My result is out last week and surprisingly I maintained in the Dean’s list! God is great, all the time! :) He answered my prayer.

I went out with the girls for lunch the other day because it was Ee Wen’s birthday. I did something really embarrassed myself. I FORGOT TO PAY FOR THE FOOD! Ohmigoat! My brother came to fetch me and I was so happy, hopping into the car and “ZOOM”, the car drove away. -_-lll

I’m flying back to the East together with my Daddy! Exams finally over! *Relieved* Was really disappointed with my OSCE performance :(

Arrived home safe and sound. :) My room is currently “seized” by my brother Cephas, so I’m sleeping in another room together with mom and Cephas’ clothes. Haha!

This year I’m celebrating my Christmas in Miri. I wanted to go Singapore lah!! >_< Nevermind, Miri also not bad. Afterall I was born here. :) Omigoat I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I seriously miss KL. Hahahaha!

The Teapot Cafe

The Teapot Cafe is one of the place I like to hang out while waiting for the hardworking doctor to finish his locum at the clinic next door. My sister brought me here few months ago, that is when I started to become their customer. :) This is a nice place, you can see hundreds of teapots from different countries displaying on the wall.

I ordered Summer mango tea (forgot the exact name, I only remember these 2 words which appear in the menu), which recommended by the owner of the shop.

My daddy king was in KL 2 weeks ago! He came to see his 2 lovely princesses. :) I tried to squeeze out time from my busy schedule to accompany my dad. Daddy met Ming for the first time! I hope daddy enjoyed his trip here. I’d have bring him to more places if I have more time.

Many shopping malls are displaying the kolam, or also known as Rangoli. It’s a form of sandpainting art designed using rice flour.

Despite all the creative and exquisite proud peacock designs, I’m still more interested in dresses, handbags, heels, and all the feminine and girly stuffs. :))

Give me 5 years time, and they’ll be mine. Hahahahahaha!

Nurse Judy need a break

I’m working in Gynae oncology site this week. All the patients here are diagnosed with cancer, mostly cervical cancer, or endometrium cancer, or uterine sarcoma stage IV, etc. All kinds of cancer which are related to women’s reproductive organs can be found in this ward.

Women, pap smear is very important! FYI, pap smear is a test to check for signs of cervix cancer. If abnormal cells of your cervix is caught and treated early, cervical cancer is not life threatening. You might want to know who is recommended for pap smear test. Remember this words: SI (Sexual intercourse). You should have your first pap smear when you start having sex. Pap smear should be done once a year, until you’ve had at least 3 normal Pap smear. Then you should have this test at least every 3 years. Remember, please ask your husband do not have sex with you for 24 hours before the test.

Sometimes women are pity. They pleased their men but in return their men passes virus to them. There are also men who love to have sex but never bother about wearing condom. In the end who suffer? Women lah yang ber-suffer. So gentlemen, stop being so selfish!

I’m tired. Not tired of working, but tired of staying/looking at this college and hostel, sick of inhaling the air here. And I’m kinda missing Zen Japanese Restaurant @ Sunway Pyramid. I need a break… Holiday, where are you???

Malacca Trip 2

I went to Malacca for the second time during the weekend because I’m sick of people in KL. Therefore I need some fresh air, nice food and sunlight from Malacca.

So here I come, Malacca! I arrived at the destination at night. Check-in into a beautiful hotel with so many antiques inside. I love their bathroom, which made me addicted to shower. I bathe at least 4 times per day. Hahaha! :D

Away from the hustle-bustle city, I feel so peaceful, so relax. :))

The next morning, I took a trishaw to saunter around the town. RM40 per hour. :)

He brought me to many places, telling me the stories of each buildings/statue/place. He’s a Sarawakian too! It’s nice to meet people whom are from Sarawak. :)

Malacca is hot. My skin get darker 2 tones during this visit, but worth it! :))

I love travelling. It’s the best time to travel when you’re still studying because you won’t have much time to travel when you start working next time. Actually I planned to travel to Bangkok and Laos this coming December. But my Queen was complaining to King that I didn’t go back for quite some time already. So, I postponed my Laos trip to please my Queen. Besides, I’m an obedient girl ba~! :D

Olga is a tour guide. Tourists pay her RM700 for 4 hours only. Imagine, if tourists booked her for 1 day, she gets RM4200! As easy as farting! On the other hand, Svetlana is a journalist. This is the first time she came to Malaysia. She loves photography, and she said she loves Malaysia too! :)

Their strawberry yogurt is so fantastic! Yummy and healthy! :D

Had a slice of original crepe.

And a slice of chocolate banana crepe.

Though they taste so-so, but I enjoyed my afternoon tea there. The cafe is cosy and comfortable. Heaven!

Sayonara Nursing Home~

Wheee~~ Today is my last day working at nursing home. Nursing home is so called as 老人院 in Mandarin.

After working 4 days at 2 different nursing homes, I definitely wouldn’t work as a full time nurse in any of the nursing home out there. Seriously, BORED!! They don’t perform sterile dressing towards the patients; They don’t monitor their vital signs every 4 hours; Physically the staffs there seems to be very caring BUT actually they’re not. I asked the grandmas. FYI, I call all the old folks “popo (Grandmother)” or “gong gong (grandfather)”, treating them like my own grandparents. I feel sympathy and empathy for them. Readers, please don’t ever think of sending your old parents to nursing home! They need our love and attention! If you think sending your loves one to nursing home will make them happier, because you’re so busy with your work or whatsoever out there, and you thought there are so many old people in the nursing home who can accompany your parent, I tell you, YOU’RE SO WRONG! I tried to get close to the old folks at nursing home, asked them questions and listened to their stories and feelings, look at the tears rolling down from their cheeks, I feel like using my arrows to shoot those who sent them here!

It cost you more than RM1500/month if you’re ~~dumping~~ locating your old parents there. The fee is not including medications, pampers, toiletries, etc. So expensive right? But still there’re so many people sending their parents there. Sometimes, the more children you have doesn’t mean your life gonna be better in the future. World changed…

This popo, she has rheumatoid arthritis. She couldn’t open up her fingers. Wanted her to do the “peace” sign but she can’t. So I taught her how to act cute without opening her hands. :P

God’s spirit stepped in and nudged me. I promised her I will go back to visit her next time. In fact, I’m going to bring them some nice food during my next visit. Good things you’d done in life were done without thoughts of self. Doesn’t the good Lord tell us to store out treasures in heaven and not on his earth?

Had this chicken herbal soup in coconut shell for the first time! RM8 per coconut, counted as cheap or not? :D

I received a parcel again today. A gift from Korea. :)

I don’t know why, after I did the dressing for one of my patient who has multiple pressure sores, my nose is feeling itchy, and uncomfortable until now. The oozing and awful smell is still trapping in my nasal cavity. Poor uncle, he’s only 69 years old, but pressure ulcers are everywhere on his weak and skinny body. Elbow, knees, legs, ankle, sacrum, EVERYWHERE! I can even see his bones. So can you imagine how deep is his wounds?

Guess what? I’m at SS2 Starbucks blogging now! I skipped my nap today which is very unusual for me. After I came back from the ward, I brought Juliet with me to drive around Petaling Jaya. I was driving without destination, and finally came to a halt at Starbucks. :D

Ward was busy in the morning because staffs were not enough. Fortunately I don’t feel the tiredness and business today, partly because my staff nurse is very nice and hardworking. Moreover I spent half of my time on my case study presentation with the lecturer in the meeting room.

The ah gong/grandpa is out from the high dependency unit (HDU) already! He’s a 94 years old Chinese patient, diagnosed with urosepsis and aspiration pneumonia, and has MRSA in his sputum. My goodness I was addicted in sucking his bad ass super THICK and yellowish and with blood stains sputum this morning. I put my finger into his mouth to clean all the solidified thick sputum which stuck in this oral mucosa. Sounds very eewww right? I feel very “geli” too! But my finger wanted to do that, what to do. Haha! Well making your patient clean, presentable and comfortable is the nurse’s responsibilities. Ah gong is lucky because God sent me to him. HAHA! Narcissism.. :P

Hello readers~! Billions of sorry for the long missing in action. I was very busy for the past few weeks, moreover I was in the blue.

So, I’m back to update again. I missed lotsss of posts previously. There’re so many things I want to share with you all, but my time is so limited.

I went to i-City during one of the weekend. Couldn’t remember when but I’m sure it’s a weekend because I don’t have to work on weekend.

That my my second time visiting i-City. Previously the entrance fee was free of charge but now they charge you RM10 per entry. i-City located in Shah Alam and is known as the city of digital lights. You can chill in the park, enjoying the marvellous sculptures and experience a whole new world with its dazzling light showcase. It is ideal for the whole family and couples. If you’re there for the first time, I’m sure the place will make you ohh and ahh.

I’m currently working in geriatrics ward. Ohmaigoat I loathe working in this ward! Make me so tired and flat everyday! I change at least 30 pampers per shift. There are too many old patients there. All need to change position every 2 hours, but the staffs are so little. This ward is rich with all kind of microorganisms, which can cause more acnes to pop out IF you didn’t wash your hand before touching yourself. I WANT MORE HOLIDAYS PLEASE!!!!

31st August is Malaysia’s independence day. As I’d told you in my previous post, I’M NOT WORKING~! Woohoo! Isn’t that great? Haha!

I spent the whole morning dating with fairy angel in my dreamland. I had some dessert at the Starbucks before heading to Ampang.

I’m not telling you I have a pair of long legs or skinny legs. But I’m showing you how fair is my legs. HAHAHA! Okay ignore me please. I’m being narcissism again :P I wear long pants as my nursing uniform in the hospital. My legs rarely get the chance to expose to the sunlight. Therefore I’m exposing them to the sunlight for a day :D

I WANT NEW DRESSES!!!!!!!! I haven’t been adding new clothes to my wardrobe for quite some time already I guess. Err wait… Yeah I did bought some last week but those are just very simple one so cannot be counted.

I’ve no inkling where is this. But I’m sure it’s somewhere in Ampang. This is not the place I wanted to go actually. Was lost and couldn’t find the place. I should bring Juliet around more often so that I can recognize more places! :P

Went to Daorae Korean BBQ restaurant for dinner! I love Daorae but the service isn’t good compare to the Korean BBQ Restaurant @ SS2. I’ve been there once and their service is FANTASTIC! The price is expensive, but worth it! :) Approximately about RM80 per person.

I love Korean rice because they’re so cute to be eaten! Haha! It’s just so different from Malaysia or Thailand rice. The bowl is so small but you know how much it cost? RM5 per bowl leh!

This is Korean Soju (烧酒). It is the most popular Korean liquor. Unfortunately I don’t like it because this soju is burning my throat and making me so hot! Japanese Sakae is nicer than Korean Soju ^_^

Ohmigoatt I’m working in paeds rehab again tomorrow. >__< That’s the place where I called it as “old-staff-nurse-place”.

I love desserts! Billionssssss of THANK YOUUUU to Ian Ong for giving me soooo many CB cakes. I got 11 different flavours of chocolate and cheese cakes from him. OMG he’s too generous. Hehe.. ^_^

The cakes were out of shape when I brought them back because I nearly involve in an accident. Daymn that Banggala who don’t know how to drive! *ANGRY* I stepped onto the emergency brake and luckily Juliet is able to come to a halt though I know the tyres were hurt. My cakes fall from the seats :(

This is my all time favourite! Triple deckers! So CHEEEZZZY, So rich, So fat, So nice, So delicious! Mmmmm~~~~ Heaven! :D My another favourite is Chicago Cheesecake.

This is CB’s new product – Macadamia cheese. Actually they have many new products recently. Red velvet is one of them too~! :)

My weekend

I went to MV with Juliet last Saturday. Shopping alone isn’t bad after all. :) I had my brunch with Ian at The Little Penang. Their char kuey tiaw is nice, but way too expensive man!! RM9.80 per plate :O Lorong 100 Tahun’s fried kuey tiaw is better than theirs. Cheaper and nicer, with bigger prawns and more springy noodles!! :P OMG I’M HUNGREEEE!!

Didn’t get any new clothes for my wardrobe that day. I spent most of my money on facial products.

I spent my night at Starbucks yesterday. Lately I’m in love with their hazelnut hot chocolate. They smell nice! Hot and warming especially during my menstruation period. #^_^#

Coffee drinks, I prefer Mocha or Caramel Macchiato; Non-coffee drinks, I prefer hazelnut hot chocolate. ^_^

Here comes Monday again. Back to work!! I look so different when I’m in my uniform right? hahahaa! Physically I’m BLUE but my mood is not blue at all! Haha! Well how can you be in the blue when you don’t want your patients to be in the blue right?

Paeds rehab clinic

I worked in the paediatrics rehab clinic for half day this morning. I tell you, that clinic is seriously BORING! I was almost dying out of boredom. I think clinics are more suitable for the old-aged (nearly retired) staff nurses because they don’t have much work to do. Not busy at all.

However, I managed to learn new things in the clinic this morning. Saw many new cases which I never been exposed before. :)

I ran into Chong SS and Cheng Ming Hann at the same place but at a different time yesterday. OMG, after a long MIA, I finally get to see their familiar faces in this hospital again, back to rescue people’s life.

I’m currently having my community health posting. I work at a different clinics everyday, precisely, I work at different places every morning and afternoon, thus causing some problems in my timetable. Too many places to be posted, and that’s why the lecturer was confused too. :)

Today I was working at the triage counter. I like that place! The staffs there are all treating me so well. Some of them even can recognize me because I’ve been there before when I had a needle prick injury last time. Basically my job there is to screen all the patients, interview them to know what’s their complains, do health assessment onto them, escort the blind patients to see doctors, “dance” with my hands with millions of expressions when I received deaf patients, etc. I learnt a lot and had so much fun! Helping the patients make me feel like I’m an angel HAHAHA!

I’ll be working at the paediatrics rehabilitation clinic tomorrow. God bless me~! ^__^

Hi readers! I’m very very sorry for disappearing for so long. Lately I’m super duper busy with my exams and also tons of assignments. Well, I’m in my final year now, so I expected my schedule gonna be very packed! :)

I went to the office the other day, was kinda surprise when I saw my picture on the notice board. Hahahaha! :D

Yes, Ophthalmology is one of my subject in my year3 semester1 of nursing course. I’ll be sitting for my ENT paper tomorrow. Pray for me will ya? :P By the way, I had my visual acuity test few days ago. My result for both of my eyes are: VR 6/6 and VL 6/6. Woohoo!! High distinction! Drink more carrot juice and your eyes will be like mine. ^__^

This is the sample of snellen chart, which is the universal method of measuring visual acuity.

Now, let me roughly tell you what am I studying for my exam tomorrow. One of the most common cases in UMMC eye clinic is cataract.

Cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects your vision. You don’t have to be a senior citizen to get cataract. In fact, people can have an age-related cataract in their 40s and 50s. But during the middle age, most cataracts are small and do not affect vision. It is after 60 that most cataracts steal vision.

Okay, today I’m going to stress on the precautions to be taken after the surgery (either phacoemulsification or extracapsular surgery). This may come out in my exam tomorrow so I’m revising actually! Hehehe.. :P

Question: Post operative care in cataract. What are the precautions need to be taken after surgery?

Answer:

1. Use the eye drops and medicines as prescribed.

2. Avoid rubbing or squeezing eye.

3. Protection: As advised by the doctor, wear protective eye shield at night for first week. Dark eyeglasses may be worn during the daytime, especially outdoors, to avoid any discomfort that you may have from bright light and also to prevent any injury to eye.

4. Face wash: For the first few days, avoid splashing water directly into the eye. Use a soft, clean, wet towel to wipe your face.

5. Shaving: Shaving of beard is permitted after the operation.

6. Bathing: Body bath (below the neck) may be resumed after the first day post-op, but avoid bathing in a bathtub for the first week after surgery.

7. Head bath: One may wash the hair with the head tilted backwards to avoid any water splashing into the eye.

8. Games: Normal daily activities including walking, reading and watching tv may be resumed soon after the operation. However, avoid strenuous activities like jogging, lifting weights, swimming, gardening, aerobics, etc. for 1-2 months.

9. Sex: Resume your sex life a week or two after the operation after consulting your doctor.

10. Make-up: Avoid eye makeup for 6 weeks.

11. Diet: There are no dietary restrictions and you may take your routine diet. However, avoid constipation by taking high fibre diet and plenty of fluids.

12. Driving: Avoid driving unless the surgeon permits you.

13. Job: You may get back to your job in 1-4 weeks after surgery depending on your profession.

14. Normal symptoms: The following symptoms are normal and are not a cause for alarm. There are slight redness, mild watering, mild irritation, glare and slight drooping of upper eyelid. These will remain to some extent for 6-8 weeks.

15. Alarming symptoms: In case of any pain, injury, decrease in vision or flashes of light in the operated eye, contact your surgeon immediately.

Exams are around the corner. At the same time, I have so many assignments need to be done. In addition, student nurses association stuffs are causing me hypertension and hyperventilation too. Can someone please freeze the time for me? :’(

I look like a zombie yesterday+today because I only had an hour of sleep in 48 hours. Can you imagine how tired am I now? @_@ Omigoat my hormonal system is affected lah! I can guarantee my period is gonna delay next month, worst I can have amenorrhea. Daymn~~ >_<

Went to Shogun @ OneUtama for the first time tonight. It’s Friday so the price is more expensive compare to Monday-Thursday. Seventy plus I think. I’m not sure how much, because this is my de-stress dinner treat so I’m not footing the bill. :D

I was taught how to eat RAW OYSTERS for the first time! Omigoat raw oysters are seriously gross~~!! If you like raw food then you might think they’re nice. :) However I had lots of the other seafood. :P I was not told to keep NBM (nil by mouth) before the dinner, so actually I did ate something before I was brought to Shogun. *palm smack on my forehead* I wasted the my stomach space. Hahaha!

I woke up in the noon and made a last-minute appointment with the saloon because I wanted to cut my fringe. I didn’t cut my hair for the past 3 months so I thought today might be the right time for me to go for a haircut since I’ve no classes or meetings.

Okay, I’m super duper extremely unsatisfied with my new hair lo! And the price was out of my expectation too! Yesssss, I AM SAD+EMO+MOODY+UPSET! :( Wasted my money… It’s like an arrow has flown through an open window and hit me in the chest and I can do nothing but hold the arrow and watch the blood dripping from me, over my belly, down my legs, and onto the floor.

I purposely use a hair-band to bring my fringe up because looking at them make my heart bleed more! :/ And I start complaining through texts…

The girls went back to their rooms after class but I have to attend the Student Nurses Association / Persatuan Jururawat Pelajar (PJP) meeting with the lecturer. I was kinda rush that day, so no time for make-up. Didn’t even shower before our dinner. Hehehe.. But I DID bathed after I came back lah~!

I’m reading this book lately. It isn’t about cancer, it’s about love. Relentlessly upbeat, an optimistic celebration of life, love, and family.

My coach was here last week because there was an archery tournament held in Keramat. I managed to squeeze out some time to meet up with him. Omigoat the distance between my hospital and Setapak is really far!!!! Luckily Leong offered me a free ride there. Thanxie Leong! :)

I went to Korean restaurant for dinner that night! Awwww I love Korean food! In fact, I love all kind of delicious food. Who don’t like to be pampered with scrumptious food right? Unless you have aneroxia nervosa (obsessive fear of gaining weight).

I’ve been to Daorae Korean restaurant at Sri Petaling few weeks ago. That restaurant serves splendid food though it’s very expensive. So this time I tried GoGung at The Gardens. The price is more expensive than Daorae but the quality and taste of the food, Daorae is nicer than GoGung.

Penang trip Part II

Guess who’s back? ^__^ Okay, I’m gonna continue with my story.

Khoo Kongsi is one of the most beautiful buildings in Penang, also known as the clan house of the Khoo family. Entrance fee is RM5/person.

Leong San Tong is the Khoo clan family temple. It is a Chinese-style temple with awesome wood cravings painted in bright colours, an ornamental roof, statues of deities and heroes and even plaques commemorating honourable members of the clan.

Across the square is an ornate Chinese opera stage. It is still in use today during Chinese New Year and other festivities.

Unfortunately, my camera ran out of battery when I was at Khoo Kongsi. I forgot to charge it the night before I went out. So I was using my phone camera to capture photos.

I went to Kek Lok Si temple – the majestic temple of Penang. People called this temple as the temple of Supreme Bliss. The temple sits majestically at the hills of Ayer Itams. It’s one of the remarkable gifts that Penang possesses today.

The symbolic and unique characteristic of Kek Lok Si is made well known not only to locals but also to the mass population of Malaysia. It has becomes one of the top tourist attractions in Penang that is frequently visited by travellers all around the world.

At the Kek Lok Si Temple ground, I came across with beautiful gardens and sacred pond. One of the famous ones will be the “Liberation Pond” (Sacred Turtle Pond). Chinese tradition believes that a turtle is a symbol of longevity, strength and endurance. It is an act of spiritual liberation when a turtle is captured and set free in this pond.

You can see the 4 heavenly kings at Kek Lok Si Temple too! They are seated in the Hall of Devas (Tian Huang Dian), each of the Mighty Kings controls one of the four points of the compasses. The Heavenly Kings are Kwang Mu (Guardian of the West), Tou Wen (Guardian of the North), Ch’i Kuo (Guardian of the East) and lastly Tseg Chang (Guardian of the South).

Sitting at the centre of the Heavenly Kings are the statue of Maitreya (The Laughing Buddha). It represents the centre of the universe that brings happiness, hope and prosperity to the people. After seeing so many Kings, I still think that my King, Jesus, is the best. I only got a King whom will always bless me with happiness, hope, prosperity, and everything I need. Hahaha! No need so many Kings to confuse myself. :P Err… To all the Buddhist who read this, no hard feelings k? hehehehe… I’m just telling you my thoughts. ^_^

The main attraction of the Kek Lok Si Temple is the impressive and striking Pagoda of Rama VI which was completed in the year 1930. It is known to be laid by the Thai Monarch himself. Widely known as Wan Fo Pau Ta or The “Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas”, The Pagoda displays a collection of Alabaster and Bronze Buddha and it also contains a Chinese octagonal base with middle tiers of the Thai architecture and is tapped with a Burmese Temple crown. Towering over one hundred feet and seven storeys high, the Pagoda is currently the largest of its kind in Malaysia.

The latest additions to the temple complex include the refurbishment of the huge 30.2m bronze statue of the Greatly Compassionate & Sagely Kuan Yin Avalokitesvara, the completion of the Guan Tong Great Hall, the Aghast Hall and the installation of an Incline Lift to the statue of Kuan Yin. If you wan to have a closer look of the Kuan Yin statue, you can take the “Incline Lift” to bring you there. It is an elevated box sized lift mounted on rails which only cost you RM2 each way.

The lift only took us about 3 minutes.

Batu Ferringhi is a place of lasting peace and paradise! Located about 2km away from Tanjung Bungah, the beach is about 20-30 minutes ride from Georgetown.

I’m one of the sporty maniacs, the numerous water sports activities here are making me crazy! Hahaha! First, I tried parasailing. This cost me RM60. Omigoat the parasailing makes me feel so great! I was “flying” in the air! The panorama up there is fantastic! Fascinating! Breath-taking! :P

I was given extra 5 minutes for the jet-ski. Although I was given a life jacket, my heart was in my mouth during jet-skiing because I drove it faaaaarrr away from the shore and at the same time I was worrying the jet-ski might turn up-side-down due to the big waves. The main point is, I SERIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SWIM! So I was actually having tachycardia. Hehehe.. I screamed so loud to ventilate all my fears and anxiety. I love jet-skiing although it’s kind of dangerous especially for a noob swimmer like me. :P Oh ya, forgot to mention about the price. They charged me RM70 for 20 minutes.

The price is kind of expensive but since I never ride on a horse before and it was my first time visiting Batu Ferringhi, I thought of adding some happy memories during my holiday. I still need to improve my skills on horse-riding so that next time I can carry my bow and arrows with me. That will make me look ~~like a warrior~~ smarter. Hahaha!

I didn’t watch sunset at the beach because I was heading to another place to meet up with Jaffery and Aaron for dinner. After our dinner at Northam, we went to Babylon Beach Blanket for some drinks. I had my first glass of “Long Island” that night. :)

My 4th day, which is also my last day in Penang…

I meet up with my ex-tuition teacher, Ms. Yeoh at her school – Chung Ling High School. I was so happy to see her again! She brought me around to visit her school and met few of her students. She asked many things about me, from what I’d told her, she said I’m now a mature young girl! ^_^ *happy*

We spent 2 hours together that afternoon. We had fish & chips at Queensbay Mall before she send me off at the airport. I hugged her tightly before I enter the boarding room. I miss you so much, miss Yeoh. <3

Penang trip

Since I’m not going back to my hometown, Miri, during the holiday, I decided to fly over to Penang for a break. This is not my first time to fly alone. I’m not boasting but I believe I’m an independent girl. People always say Penang is a heaven of food. I’m a foodaholic, therefore I MUST visit this place and experience myself. I’m lucky that my air ticket is fully sponsored by the Lion Company. Thanks to the chairman of the company. :)

The Penang Bridge is no doubt one of the many architecture wonders of Penang. Ranks as the longest bridge in Asia and 5th largest in the world, the iconic bridge that took 5 years to complete was the beloved bridge for every Penangtes.

After Leonard picked me up from the airport, I started my Penang gastronomic adventure that night.

Penang gourmet ranges from street food to fine dining. With each race offering their own traditional fare, foodies will be spoilt for choice. Although every culture has their signature dishes, they are also influenced by other cooking styles and have managed to come up with their own special creations that represent a beautiful blend of tastes and spices.

Okay, the next day, I were brought to the Penang island! :D

The famous yellow ferry at Weld Quay is the main mode of transportation between the island and mainland before the Penang Bridge was constructed. The 15 minutes ride enables me to view the two important heritage buildings –Wisma Yeap Chor Ee and Wisma Kastam, as I head towards the island.

Next, I visited the Fort Cornwallis. Being the biggest and the most intact fort in Malaysia, the Fort Cornwallis is considered as an important monument and landmark in the historical development of Malaysia, particularly the island of Penang. Fort Cornwallis is situated at the spot where Captain Francis Light was supposed to have landed in 1786. Today, much of the old fort remains, but its precincts have been converted into public park and an open air theatre. It is guarded by old cannons, which were retrieved by the British from pirates who had captured them from the Johore Sultanate.

I visited the Penang Harbour Lighthouse as well. It’s the second oldest lighthouse in the country located at Fort Cornwallis in Penang and is opened to public admission. Originally known as Fort Point Lighthouse, it underwent renovation in 1914 and 1925, and was renamed the Penang Harbour Lighthouse. Half of the George Town can be seen from the 21meters-high structure. It is also the only one in Peninsular Malaysia that does not serve any navigational purpose.

At the Penang Peranakan Mansion, the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. With over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles of the era on display, this Baba-Nyonya museum is also housed in one of Penang’s heritage mansion of electric design and architecture. The admission fee for adult is RM10/person. Complimentary conducted tours are available too!

If you’re craving for fried kuey tiaw, you can visit Jalan Selamat and search for the ~~lady~~ woman who wears a red hat. The price of a plate of kuey tiaw isn’t cheap here. If I'm not wrong, they sell RM6.90 per plate.

My third day in Penang…

Visited the largest church in Penang – St. Anne Church.

St. Anne history can be trace back since 1833, when there is some Chinese and Indian Catholic followers from Batu Kawan settled in the foothills of Bukit Mertajam. There are actually peasants who had come to clear the land for cultivation. St. Anne Church was started by French missionaries from the Paris Foreign Mission Society that started their missionary work in the Far East as early as the 17th century. The chapel was name St. Anne because she was the most popular among the French missionaries.

Highly regarded as mother of Mary, St.Anne is the virgin who give birth to Jesus Christ. Many believe that St. Anne have been born around 50 B.C in either Nazareth or Bethlehem. Catholics believer observe her feast day on 26th July every year. It is known between 1840 to 1860, the first church to be built in Bukit Mertajam was on top of the hill.

A bigger chapel was built in 1865 to accommodate the congregation that is growing bigger day after day. It is built just behind the wall of taps of St. Anne water. As the water is filtered by the soil, this spring water is cleaner and healthier than the tap water.

first time…

I had lotsa “first time” for the past few weeks with different friends. :)

I had my first “proper” hangout with Saritha and Azizul after we came back from SUKMA. Both of them are national elite archers. We know each other for so many years but we never hangout due to their packed training and tournaments schedules and my hectic life. We watched A-team at Signature (Gardens’ cinema). And yeah, that was my first time entering Garden’s cinema too! The tickets are extraordinary expensive but the seats are super comfy!

Next, very obvious these are tennis balls. I wanted to try tennis long long time ago but i have nobody to coach me and most importantly I do not have the gadgets. Dr.Peter had been inviting me for tennis many times and I finally accepted his invitation one day.

Tennis is a fun and exciting game. You actually can perspire a lot. But, unfortunately this doesn’t happen on me. That was my first time trying tennis and I found it is so dead and gnirob (read it in another way). WHY?! Sigh.. Because somebody treated me like a noob chic. *BOOO* Keep teaching me the simple and basic stuffs. Hello, I’m a sport woman ok? I can sweat more if I play archery.

Few days ago, Ming brought me to The Opera for the first time since I’m so keen to go there. I tried “Sex on the beach” for the first time in my life! Taste like Sunkist. Oh yea, when I was in Penang, I tried “long island” at Babylon for the first time too! Long island is kinda strong. Jaffery, Penang archery coach, foot the bill that night. Thanks Jaffery! :)

Malacca & Johor trip

After Sukma ended, my roomie Ivy came from KL with her parents to pick me up from UiTM (the place where my team stayed). They brought me to their cousin’s house, which is also in Malacca. Sarawak sports council didn’t buy any flight ticket for me to go back Sarawak after the competition because they said ticket sold out already. Pathetic excuse! *rolled eyes*

We actually wanted to go to the Capitol for satay celup (one of the “must-try” food in Malacca) but there were so many people queuing up to be seated so Ivy’s father decided to go to another place.

After searching the shop for an hour, we finally reached the shop—Kingtu restaurant.

That was my first time to try satay celup.

We went to Serkam at night. Serkam is located far away from the town area. Usually only local residents know how to drive here. The seafood here is fresh and cheap! Worth to try~! ^_^

The next day, the cousin drove us to Parit Jawa. That place is a small village, so-called as kampung ikan. Many fishermen live there..

I watched how they make salted fish. First they have to cut the fish into 2, then roughly clean with water, then spread salt all over the fish’s body.

After that they keep the fish in a big pail and let it soaked with the salt for 2 days. Very smelly~!

The fishes are arranged so neatly! Amazed~!

Actually I wanted to hold the fish’s fins but they told me my fingers gonna be very very smelly for few days. :/

I climbed into the boat! :p Everything smells like fish, included the boat steering.

Ran back into the car to hide from the hot sun. *sweating*

Next, we went to the kampung “restaurant” to crave for seafood!! The picture below shows you how’s the “restaurant” looks like. Haha!

After that we went to the cousin’s friend house. He loves to keep antiques in his house. I was like visiting a museum instead of a house. :)

After my second SUKMA in Terengganu, I never thought I can represent my state again after I’d stop shooting for nearly 2 years. Going back to my battle field is really great! Met up with so many new national archers! Nowadays the archery standard has gone up a lot! But thank God I’m still the record holder for 70meters. Hehehe.. :P

I went to the dietetic department last week. I didn't know our hospital is so advance! I never realize UMMC have their own milk kitchen, where the infant milk formula is prepared and packed there! Cool~! They have a milk store where they keep different brands of milk and supplements.

I participated in University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Archery Open last week. Met a lot of long-lost friends and coaches. There's one thing I like about their hostels--Their curfew is 12.00 midnight. The owner of this Princess Diary is back to KL! :) Actually I wanted to blog on the day I flew to Kuching. FYI, I went to Kuching the past few days because my coach registered my name in the 2nd Malaysia Circuit Archery Tournament 2010. The tournament is held in Sarawak but too bad it's not in my hometown. Today suppose to be the last day of the competition but I came back earlier because I can't miss too much of my clinical duties.

After MIA from the world of archery for 2 years, I finally come back again. Once an archer, always an archer. Archery is my game. :)) I met many familiar senior archers, coaches from different states, judges, officers, parents, etc., and of course I met a lot of new archers too. People were asking me why I was at the archery field. Why I was evaporated or lost for the past 2 years. What am I doing now. So many questions... I thought SUKMA XII 2008 in Terengganu will be my last archery tournament in my life. Who will expect an archer who had been MIA for 2 years without training, will appear as a participant at the archery field after 2 years?

I was doing morning shift before I took the evening flight to Kuching, Sarawak. It was my last day in the maternity ward (to be precise, postnatal ward) with the babies and mothers. Feel so heavy-hearted to leave all the hours/days-old cutie pies(babies).

I like bathing babies! I'll make sure they're clean and smell nice if they're under my care. My job is to remove all the vernix from the baby's folds and blood clots/stains from the hair. I also have to help the babies to massage their head while shampooing. I believe my skill is not bad lar. The babies fall asleep while I was helping them to bathe.

The night before I went to Kuching, I was brought out to Zen Japanese Restaurant by Gnim. Thanks for the good-luck-dinner treat! It was my first time to drink sake that night. Taste nice! :) Gnim said sake and sashimi are splendid combination. So I tried. ^_^

::sake::

Sake is pronounced as "sa-keh". It is a second most important drink in Japan. As you can see from the picture above, it is a clear liquid and has about 10-20% of alcohol in it. It is made from rice and water. Sake is served in a ceramic flask called tokkuri, and the small cup that filled with sake is called o-choko. When someone wants to pour you more sake, you should hold your ochoko cup up. If you're drinking with Japanese people, this is one of the helpful tips to remember. Sake can be served hot or cold. Hot sake is called atsukan while cold sake is called hiyazake. Hiyazake seems to taste sweeter, so people tend to over drink.

I won a silver medal for my 60meters event in the 2nd Malaysia circuit. Thank God! Didn't expect I can win medal after stopping 2 years. ^__^ Lose 1 point to the gold medalist. Better luck next time. :) I had a great time catching up with my long lost team and juniors. I'm the most senior one in the team. I just realized I have involved in archery 6 years already. Time flies.

I bought myself a specs last week. Just for fun purpose. Haha! So this is how I look like if I have myopia next time. FYI, myopia is a medical term for short-sightedness.

Malacca

One of the most interesting thing I did during my 4 days off was day trip to the historical city Malacca. I never been to Malacca before. In other words, this is my very first visit to Malacca for the journey of passionate food and heritage colours. We departed from the hospital at 8a.m. Through the North South Expressway, we arrived Malacca at 10a.m. This proved that my friend, Gnimnauhc, was driving very safely in order to avoid from the RM300 penalty.

Gnim and I were in the Malacca Chinatown. Our stomach was growling because we skipped our breakfast. We had our brunch at one of the chicken rice ball shop. Hainanese chicken rice ball is one of the famous and favorable local delicacies in Malacca. Due to the long queue and I was in great hunger, we went to another shop for chicken rice ball.

Chicken rice ball is one of the unique traits in Malacca. After one bite of the chicken rice ball, I think I would prefer chicken rice to chicken rice balls. They looks cute, but not nice to eat. Disappointed. :(

After filling our stomach, we left the shop and sauntered at Jonker Street. The clothes weren't cheap. KL is still my congenial shopping heaven. The shops at Jonker Street are selling various types of unique arts and crafts. Jonker Street a.k.a antique street is featuring artifacts from different periods of colonial rule Portuguese, Dutch, and British.

It was a super-duper hot day. The sun was in full blast, but I've no choice because the places we will be visiting are closely located within walking distance.

::A Famosa -- Massive fortress that was built by the Portuguese in the 16th Century::

The fortress was built because Commander Alfonso de Albuquerque of the Portuguese fleet believed that Malacca would become an important port linking Portugal and the spice trade from China. Now there's only one gate left --Porta de Santiago. The fort changed hands in 1641 when the Dutch beat the Portuguese. The Dutch renovated the gate in 1670 which the logo "anno 1670" inscribed on the gate's arch. The fortress changed hands again in the early 19th century when the Dutch handed it over to the British to prevent it from falling into the hands of Napoleon's expansionist France. The English then destroyed the fortress in 1806, only because of the Intervention of Sir Stamford Raffles (the founder of Singapore) a small part could be saved. Am I bringing you to sleep? Haha!

Porta de Santiago is located at the foot of St. Paul Hill. There is a stairway for people to reach the peak of the hill.

There are many large shady trees at the peak of St. Paul Hill.

This is St.Paul Church, originally built by Duarte Coelho, a Portuguese Captain in 1521, the church was formerly a chapel for the Portuguese and it was named as "Nosa Senhora" - Our Lady of the Hill. Although these valuable ruins have been standing on top of the summit of St.Paul Hill in Malacca for centuries, the strong and thick bricks still remind one of the magnificence architecture of the chapel.

When the Dutch's Christ Church was completed, St. Paul Hill no longer played its role as a praying place and the Dutch turned it into a burial ground and graveyard. Several monumental tombstones, with Dutch words engraving on it were leaning against the wall in the church. The tombstones and the graveyard nearby were places for the Dutch to mourn their ancestors while they settled down in Malacca centuries ago.

In front of the church stood a huge pearl-white statue - the statue of St. Francis Xavier. 27 years after Duarte Coelho built the church, Don Albuquerque handed the church to the Society of Jesus. St. Francis Xavier, as the pioneer Catholic Missionary that time was appointed to receive the title on behalf of the society in 1548.

The statue of St. Francis Xavier has a missing right arm. Many visitors are curious about the missing right arm, including me. From the information I'd found, the statue was not being constructed without the right arm on purpose. The completed statue was planned to be consecrated in the morning. However, a tree fell and broke off the statue's right arm. Until today, the statue that stood in front of St. Paul Church has a missing right arm.

Other than St. Paul Church and the statue, the summit of St Paul Hill is blessed with a breathtaking scene.

The gold-domed former home of the Melaka Club was built by the British in 1911. The building has been extensively restored and turned into a museum documenting the events leading up to the country's independence. In the grounds of the museum are several vehicles, including a 1957 Chevrolet used to transport the country's first prime minister around the country. Entrance fee is F.O.C.

We proceeded to a nearby Dutch architecture, the Christ Church. When the Dutch took over Malacca from the hand of the Portuguese, they built several buildings for their own purposes. This church was built as a place of worship as they did not have church for themselves apart from the small chapel built by the Portuguese on St. Paul Hill. This church is one of the most attractive heritage in Malacca that has gone through several stages of change under the governing of different colonials.

The church is painted in coral red with huge white cross at the middle. It is the most distinguished one among adjacent buildings that are also painted in similar red colour. One surprising facts with regards to the construction of Christ Church that everyone has to know is the ceiling beams. The Dutch, with their superior architecture skills, had constructed the beams of the church by using huge tree trunk with no joints between each other. Until now, the church is still functioning with services available in English, Chinese, and Tamil languages. In fact, it is the oldest church that is still in operation in Malaysia (another interesting fact to know about this church:)

The church is located opposite The Stadthuys, the former official residence for the dutch government. You can see a beautiful fountain named Queen Victoria Fountain in the middle built by the British.

One of the significant landmarks found at the Dutch Square is Malacca Clock Tower. This clock tower was built in 1886 in honour of a successful Chinese tycoon named Tan Beng Swee. Besides, we saw a man and a woman offering photo-taking session with 7 meters python and iguana at the price of RM10/photo. I chose the python instead of the iguana because that sounds more challenging. :D

Next, we came to the Malacca River. Nothing much to talk about this river, so let's move on to the next station! :)

I get thirsty very fast. I drink approximately 4 liters of water a day. The water in my body "evaporated" very fast especially during this hot-hot day. We headed to "San Shu Gong" for durian chendol. I saw Dr Toh and his family there too!

Moving on next, we went to Eye On Malaysia and Malacca beach. Eye on Malaysia is still under construction so it's not open for public yet. :(

We purposely waited until the evening because I wanted to go to Jonker Walk. We were there during the daytime too. But Jonker Street will be closed from traffic between 6p.m. to 10.30p.m(Fridays) / 12.00 midnight (weekends) every Fridays and weekends. Stalls will be lining up along the narrow street to offer great bargains.

I didn't buy any souvenirs from the night market. KL's night market is still the best! :P

We departed from Malacca back to KL at 8.40p.m. I arrived at my hostel at 10.45p.m. Luckily the gate was not closed yet. The guard was sitting inside the guard room. He didn't want to bother as I passed by him. Good! I like this kind of guard who saves me from explanation letters! :D

Tired and exhausted. My skin was so sticky due to my perspiration. Although my skin turned a little bit tanner, I enjoyed the short vacation in Malacca. Dear readers, thanks for spending your precious time to read such a looong post! ;) I'm hitting the pillows now. Sweet dreams~ xoxo! #^_^#

The hidden side of Selangor

I went to Kuala Selangor last night. Thanks to 7773. :P Do you know there's a Firefly Park there? Well I just knew it few days ago. As cool night took over the heat of the day, the sun had finished it's shift on his side of the world and had moved on, making way for the moon, we started out journey heading to Kuala Selangor! The park is only opened at night (It's a Firefly Park remember? :D) It took us about an hour to reach Kampung Kuantan. The quiet village of Kampung Kuantan is the site of the largest firefly colonies in the world.

After an hour of driving on the super dark road, we finally arrived at the destination. Cars are not allowed to drive into the park, so we parked the car at the parking lot before we walked to the jetty where all the skilled local oarsmen waited for the visitors. I didn't know we have to take a boat ride to cross over the opposite bank until we reached the jetty. RM40 per boat, very lousy small wooden boat, can tenggelam (sink) anytime. The reason why they didn't use an engined-boat is because they don't want the loud murmur of engine scare the fireflies off. I'm a boat-phobia, because I do not know how to swim. I only know how to swim when my feet can touch the ground. I'm fear of the sunken boat (Titanic's fault). I'm scared there are crocodiles in the river (watched too much crocodiles movie).

It was too dark to see the opposite bank and I don't have any inkling how big or wide or deep (whatever lah) is the river. I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13), so I decided to take the risk! Haha! I put on the life jacket, and waited for my boat. All I could see in the light from jetty was brown, still water, and partly submerged bits of vegetation being swept along. A small wooden boat knocked gently against the mooring post. A boatman was holding the boat in place with his oars so that we could get into the boat. I was hyperventilating as I stepped into the wooden boat and wobbled my way to sit down. As my centre of gravity lowered and balance restored, I immediately changed my attention to the brown water surrounding me. The boat was just ONE INCH above the river omaigoat! There I started to imagine again. I was thinking what if I swift my fingers in the brown water, will the crocodile bite my hand and pull me off the boat? Arrgh think too much. Haha!

Our boat left the jetty, crossed the opposite bank. Watching the boatman rowing the boat made me think of "Row Row Row Your Boat" song. The river is now less intimidating. The river is not that wide. My pupils dilated to the max in the dark. Darkness and quietness struck me. I have no idea what is in front of me. I was searching for fireflies in the dark.

Few minutes later, a few glittery specks of light appeared in the darkness. As we approached closer, the lights multiplied and became brighter. I was stunned when I saw billions of small yellow lights flashing in unison covering the mangrove trees. My pupils constricted 1mm as the illuminations break the darkness. The dark colored trees and bushes had transformed from shimmering clouds into enchanting sight! Amazing~!

::Fireflies::

At first it seems artificial. I thought they used electrical light bulbs to decorate the trees. But there are no electrical wires at the river bank, just an eerie silence and a sort of spiritual quiet in the wild. I was wrong. Everything is real and natural!

::More fireflies! I feel like I were in a fantasy world::

Kuala Selangor's nightlife takes on a new meaning with its glittering firefly colonies. Touch, feel their fluttering wings and be one of the lucky few to view this dreamlike phenomenon!

"Can I touch them(fireflies)? Let me touch them pweaseeee..."

The boat gets closer and and closer. The boatman brought the boat under the mangrove trees. Our boat hit the tree trunk, the next second I saw millions of fireflies fall into our boat, some on my head, some on my laps. I was immersed in joy as the fireflies showered me. That was my first time in my lifetime to experience "snow". I reached out my hands to catch the fireflies, enclosed them in my hands, made a wish, my wish is then flew into the sky :) God is great. He created lampyridae species that make trees glitter like Christmas trees at night.

Back to the jetty! I felt the sky was spinning when I get down from the boat. That's why the picture above is a bit blur. Haha! Luckily I didn't throw up :) I bought a RM7 key chain at the jetty!

I had late dinner that night. Special delivery to my hostel! :D Food makes me happy!
